Uncanny X-Men 467

Rachel’s narration explains that the Shi'ar are an alien empire who see the Phoenix as the “end of all that is”. Jean Grey became the Phoenix and had a daughter, Rachel.

Outside the home of Jean’s parents (John and Elaine Grey) in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, members of the Grey family are enjoying a family reunion, unaware of the danger that they are in.

Outside, the Shi'ar Death Commandos lock onto a secondary target.

One of the Shi'ar (Blackcloak) states that by order of the Majestrix Shi’ar (Lilandra Neramani), the Grey genome is to be erased and all members of the Grey family killed.

As a first order telepath, Rachel thinks she should have seen the attack coming.

In the first 2 seconds of the attack, John Grey is killed. He was a history professor at Bards College, and was going to teach his granddaughter how to dance.

In the 3rd second, Fred Harriman, an in-law is impaled by a spear that comes straight through a window into him.

In the 4th second, the Shi’ar Death Commandos storm into the living room. All Rachel can do is scream as her cousin, Bekka Wallis (a teacher from Chicago) and Bekka’s finance are vaporized.

Back at the Xavier Institute, Kitty, Kurt, Betsy, Scott and Emma all hear Rachel’s scream telepathically.

Seconds 5-7: The Death Commandos attempt to seal off the house so no one can get in or out. Outside, they take out Rachel’s grandmother’s sister, Phyllis and her husband.

At the Institute, Kurt moves quickly to go help. He grabs Kitty and Betsy (who is only wearing a bathrobe) and teleports all three of them to the Greys’ home.

In the 8th second of the attack, the massacre continues as the Shi’ar kill more members of the Grey family in the living room, including Uncle Roger, a jazz musician.

Kurt drops Kitty and Betsy off on the room and goes for more help.

In the 9th second, Rachel, still traumatized, kneels next to the burnt outline of her grandfather on the porch.

Kurt tries to teleport out, but the Shi’ar have gotten their shield up and he’s trapped inside.

After 10 seconds, Rachel has finally recovered from the shock, and fiercely determined, she gets up and says it’s her turn.

In the 11th through 13th seconds, the Shi’ar move through the rest of the house. In a bedroom, they vaporized Julian, just as Kitty enters.

Second 14: Outside, Betsy deflects gunfire. Kitty hits the Death Commando who killed Julian with a baseball bat.

In the 15th second: In the kitchen, Rachel blasts one of the Shi’ar who just killed Terry Maguire. Outside, as Betsy impales a Shi’ar with her sword, she asks Kurt when the back-up is. He tells her that they are locked in.

Upstairs, Kitty kneels by the pile of ash that once was Julian, repeating no over and over again.

In the 16th second, Rachel see the remains of her uncle, Liam, who was a minister, in the kitchen.

Outside, the Shi’ar take out Rachel’s cousins Mary-Margaret and Kindra.

In the 17th and 18th seconds, Rachel telepathically tells Kurt to help Kitty and Betsy to help her grandmother. The Death Commandos continue through the house, trying to find their main target, Rachel.

In the 19th second, Rachel blasts the winged Death Commando, while another Death Commando has Betsy trapped. Upstairs, a Death Commando kills Brian Grey (John Grey’s younger brother).

Second 20: Rachel calls the winged Death Commando a monster as she flies right at him. Betsy fights back against her opponent and Kurt rescues Kitty.

In the 21st second, Rachel is hit by a blast and she and the winged Death Commando fall out of the sky. Betsy blasts her opponent. Kurt and Kitty teleport to the roof and see three more members of the Grey family have been killed in the front yard, including Rachel’s Aunt Julia and Uncle Brian, who took custody of Joey and Gailyn Bailey after Jean’s sister, Sara, was killed.

Second 22: Rachel and the winged Death Commandos crash into the house. Betsy had taken out one Death Commando, but another attacks her.

In the 23rd second, Rachel climbs out of the rubble, seeing several bodies, saying she is so sorry. Two of the Death Commandos, Blackcloak and Sega, approach her, saying she won’t be untraceable for much longer.

In the 24th second, Rachel is blasted by Blackcloak and held down while a liquid is poured onto her back. One of the Death Commandos says she will never hide from them again.

Rachel is lying face down on the ground with the back of her sweater ripped open. A spider-like Phoenix-esque brand has been placed on her back.
