The Bring Rachel Home Campaign Continues With the Fight For Cable

In X-Men #200 and Cable & Deadpool #42, it appears that Cable blows himself up to save information he has stored in Providence. Although there is no body, what Mike Carey has been saying in interviews and to fans has been alarming that Nathan truly is dead.

What also worries fans that this is at attempt by Marvel to get rid of alternate reality and future characters that editors like Joe Quesada and Axel Alonso hate with a passion.

What we need to do is continue to make our voices heard. Rachel & Cable have fans and we want Nathan back.

What Can You Do:

- X-Men writer Mike Carey will be touring the US in July and appearing at book shops and LCS. This is a perfect time for Rachel & Cable fans to impress upon him how we feel.

- There is an X-Men Panel at the San Diego Comic Con on Sunday, July 29th, with Ed Brubaker, Mike Carey, Chris Yost, Craig Kyle and Axel Alonso. This will be a great opportunity to ask Yost questions about X:EV and to badger them about bringing back Cable.

- Email officex@marvel.com and mheroes@marvel.com with demands to bring back Cable.

Uncanny X-Men 486 Spoilers

If you don't want to know what happens in UXM 486, don't read this. (Spoilers, obviously):

- Vulcan kills Corsair and remains Shi'Ar Emperor
- Rachel does very little in the issue
- Alex becomes the new leader of the Starjammers
- Rachel, Korvus and Lorna join the Starjammers
- The Starjammers' mission is to avenge Corsair's death and restore Lilandra to
the throne.
- Since they aren't X-Men any longer, they are free to kill Vulcan.

Updated to add more details:

- The team becomes split-up when Lilandra tries to get Xavier away from Vulcan and Alex, Lorna, Rachel and Korvus are all left behind.
- They're stuck in space, but send a message back to Xavier and Beast that they're going to stay and fight Vulcan.
- The team that returns to Earth consists of: Xavier (repowered), Nightcrawler, Warpath, Darwin, and Hepzibah

If you recall from the X-Panel at Wizard World Los Angeles in March, Ed Brubaker and Marvel marketing exec Jim McCann said there are no plans for a Starjammers series, but there might be if there is enough demand. We aren't falling for their trap. Just Say No to the Starjammers!

Mike Carey said he wanted to do a Rachel & Cable reunion! Rather than Rachel rotting in space, Carey should get Rachel in Adjectiveless X-Men!!!

The Bring Rachel Home campaign has been launched!!

Updated News on the Don't Leave Rachel In Space Campaign

It seems like our little campaign has gotten the attention of the X-Office.

Uncanny X-Men Editor Nick Lowe had this to say, "We value [Rachel] as a character and weve got big plans for her. We just cant talk about them yet."

Let's all just hope that those "big plans" includes her returning to earth and continuing to appear in X-books.

Pre-emptive Strike: Don't Leave Rachel In Space

This contains spoiler speculations about the final two issues of the Shi'ar arc and Rachel's fate.

Brubaker and the Uncanny Editors have teased since the beginning of the Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire arc that many of the characters would not be returning home.

The solicitation for Uncanny X-Men 487 says that half of the team will not be returning home. Already from the information released about the next arc and other crossovers like World War Hulk, we know Nightcrawler, Professor Xavier and Warpath are safe. That means the half of the team that doesn't return is Rachel, Havok and Polaris, and possibly Darwin (although Brubaker said that we would see more of Darwin at Wizard World).

Reports from Ed Brubaker's appearance at Wizard World Los Angeles have made this news more alarming. There are no plans for a Starjammers series. According to a report on CBR, Brubaker told fans at the X-Men Panel that the characters that say behind would go into character limbo and would be a dangling plot that someone could pick up in a few years. There will not be a spinoff or sequel detailing that happens to them.

A Rachel fan that spoke to Brubaker was under the impression that it was a foregone conclusion that Rachel will remain in space.

There is no proof that that is true. However, we can either choice to act now before the issue has been finished or wait until it is too late to make a difference in May.

Coming up this summer will be several crossover events that would be amazing to see Rachel involved in and those lead-up to the major X-Event in November. Rachel needs to be apart of these events and not back in character limbo!

Several months ago, Mike Carey said he was interested in writing Rachel and reuniting Rachel and Cable (Nathan Summers):

From Livewire: "Yes, I like Rachel a lot. I haven't heard that rumour but I do know that not all of that team are coming home. I'd love to write Rachel..."

He also posted on his blog that "Marvel Girl is a great character and interacts very interestingly with Cable." and "Askani - I can promise you that some of your wishes will be granted. (re: interaction between Cable and Rachel) And I agree 100% about the Cable/Rachel interaction."

So, it looks like there are two options: Rachel stranded in space for the next few years or Mike Carey getting to do the Cable/Rachel interaction he wants to do.

That's why a pre-emptive strike is necessary. Before Uncanny X-Men 486 comes out and everything is set in stone, Rachel fans need to take action. Rachel needs to come home and Mike Carey needs to be allowed to write Rachel and Nathan together:

You can email the X-Editors at officex@marvel.com

And write to them at:

X-Mail
c/o Marvel Comics
417 5th Ave
NY, NY 10016

Write and email as often as you can! Fans need to rally together and make sure that the editors don't let Rachel go into character limbo! Rachel needs to go to Mike Carey's X-Men! He wants to use her. Why should she be left in space when a writer wants to use her and reunite her with her family?

UPDATED! Phoenix Limited Series Campaign

Joe Quesada made a major error in his Joe Fridays' Q&A with fans on Newarama when asked by a fan about the Phoenix Limited Series that was never published:

Q: novak- Does Marvel have any plans to finally publish the Phoenix limited series that was written by Chris Claremont and penciled by Rick Leonardi back in 1986? It was frequently mentioned in the letter pages of Uncanny X-Men in 1986 and 1987, leaving many fans greatly disappointed that it never came out.

The pages that have leaked onto the Internet are amazing and fans would love to finally see that series published.

JQ: Novak, I believe this story eventually was printed several years ago in the X-Men: Fast Friends limited series.

Joe Quesada is confusing The Phoenix Limited Series with True Friends, which was also penciled by Rick Leonardi. That was an Excalibur Special that was stopped when Chris Claremont quit Marvel in 1991 and later resurrected when Claremont returned to Marvel in 1999. They are two completely different titles and have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

For more information about it, see the Unpublished Phoenix Limited Series summary page.

Rachel Fans Need to Take Action!

We need to let Joe Quesada and the X-Men editors (Axel Alonso, Nick Lowe and Sean Ryan) know that fans want the Phoenix Limited Series published and we aren't going let Quesada get away with claiming it was.

Please, take some time to do each of the following:

1. Post a reply on the Newarama thread discussing Joe Quesada's erroneous answer to the Phoenix LS question.

2. To make sure Quesada gets the message, post on the Newarama thread with questions for Joe Quesada and ask him if the Phoenix LS will be published.

3. Email the X-Editors at officex@marvel.com requesting that they publish the Phoenix Limited Series.

4. Write to the Marvel Editors at:

X-Mail
c/o Marvel Comics
417 5th Ave
NY, NY 10016

If all of the fans can do a major push here, maybe we can finally get the Phoenix LS to be actually published.

Update! Joe Quesada Responds!

Joe Quesada responded to fans telling him that "Fast Friends" is not the Phoenix Limited Series Newarama when asked by a fan about the Phoenix Limited Series that was never published:

JQ: Well, novak, I got to tell you, I've asked around the office and no one can recall or has any knowledge of this story. Help me out here; send me a link to where you've seen these pages and we'll look into it. I wish I could be more helpful here and I'm sorry about giving the wrong answer, but this one has thrown everybody here for a loop, including Ralph Macchio who has been here [shudder] 30 years!

By the way, also the fact that no one can recall this story doesn't bode well for future publication as I would suspect that the entirety of the art and story may have been lost to the winds.
Fans needs to keep emailing officex@marvel.com and demanding the Phoenix Limited Series.

Update #3 - Joe Q Finally Gets a Clue But the Campaign Continues:

In this week's Joe Friday, Joe finally figured out what the Phoenix Limited is, but gave a very disappointing answer.

Q: "Dark Beast" - Re: The Phoenix LS that has been discussed in the last two Joe Fridays.

I posted info about this at CBR well over a year ago (8/7/2005) that featured unfinished penciled pages turned up for the series. I'll repost the info and the links here, maybe that will help jog Marvel's memory on things. CC at least probably recalls the storyline, or at least the jist of it. Hell, he may even still have his script on file somewhere. So it wouldn't be that hard to dust it off.

“I saw this posted over on ComicBoards.Com, and thought you guys would like to take a look at it. It's art by Rick Leonardi from the Chris Claremont's unpublished Phoenix Mini-Series which was announced in the Uncanny X-Men #208 letters page and then scrapped. It was supposed to take place between Uncanny X-Men #209 (when Rachel leaves with Spiral) and the Excalibur Special (where Rachel escapes from the Mojoverse and ends up in London) back in the 80's. There's only three pages up there, but it's nice to see what might have been.

JQ: Just so you folks understand how important your comments and suggestion are here on NJF, we’ve been looking into this since it was first discussed and I think we’ve finally come across the answer. Editor and moonlighting private investigator, Andy Schmidt, did some digging and emailed Rick Leonardi about the project.

According to Rick, the series was going to be written by Chris Claremont and inked by Dan Green. Rick said it dealt with Rachel and her relationship with Franklin Richards and the Power Pack. The going logic at the time was that it got too complicated with past/present/future continuity and was subsequently shelved with I believe less than an issue having been penciled. That’s the whole story, folks, wish I had better news to report but it seems that this project was no where near completion before it was killed.

The campaign needs to continue! Keep contacting the X-Office and asking that the Phoenix Limited Series be finished and published!!
