Cable enters a Chicago office building with a briefcase, telling security he has a delivery for Gloria Temple of Xylon Electronics. He uses his telepath to trick the security guards, then taps into their company's computer system.
Cable delivers the briefcase to Ms. Temple and leaves. She opens it and all that is inside is a Bible with the phrase "you have been judged and found wanting" underlined. Ms Temple then starts acting strangely and her secretary calls security.
A secret organization called the Dark Sisterhood has framed Cable and destroyed the lives of his friends. Their leader, the Dark Mother, fears him for some unknown reason. The members of the Dark Sisterhood are well placed in government and business. If Cable’s only way to stop them is to take each member out one at a time, he will.
At the Dark Sisterhood headquarters, a sister reports to the Dark Mother about Cable’s most recent attack. Now 47 members have been taken out by Cable in the past week. None have been killed - only regressed back to childhood. Cable has also wiped out each operation’s computer system and stole all of their data.
The Dark Mother orders all sisters in the Chicago area to hunt down Cable.
At his secret base, Cable toys around with a laptop. Considering his experience with technology 2000 years in the future, messing around with computers is child’s play.
He sends a list of the Dark Sisterhood members involved in government to Commander GW Bridge of SHIELD.
Meanwhile, Irene is driving alone at night and is pulled over by the police. Since the Dark Sisterhood want her dead, she had assumed the identity and has an image inducer that makes her appear to be African-American.
The police force her out of the car and drawn their guns. She claims that she’s an insurance investigator and has a web cam in the car recording everything. The police don't have any cause to pull her over. She’s just a victim of racial profiling.
The police let her go. Extremely frazzled and finally understanding the prejudice that mutants face, she stops at a motel.
The data from the Chicago office give Cable almost a complete list of the Dark Sisterhood members - except who the Dark Mother is. He decides to play a cat & mouse game with them, wanting them to find him.
Hundreds of years ago, the Dark Mother has dinner with her brother in a very upscale estate. She tells him about her visions of the future. She can see al possible futures and the results of particular actions. She wants to use her ability to gain power for herself and all women.
But she has foreseen a problem. Possibly hundreds of years into the future, she sees the figure of a man, sometimes accompanied by a young woman (Nathan and Rachel) and beyond that she sees nothing by darkness.
Her brother explains that this man is her nemesis and the darkness she sees is death.
In the present day, the Dark Mother is awoken with news that Cable has been spotted in a grocery store and they have located the warehouse where he has been staying. Cable is inside sleeping and the Sisterhood had blocked all of the exits. The Dark Mother orders them to attack.
Several weeks ago and thousands of miles away, Rachel Summers argues with her friends at a S. A.M. (Students Against Mutants) rally.
On stage, a woman with a bullhorn shouts anti-mutant slogans and a mutant is hung in effigy.
Rachel tells them that this is crazy. Mutants are human beings just like everyone else.
Her blonde haired friend argues back that Rachel needs to wake up. Mutants are can look inside people’s minds and Magneto nearly started World War III.
Rachel tries to explain that most mutants aren't like Magneto.
Her other friend asks when Rachel became an expert about mutants. She tells her to listen to the woman on the stage with the bullhorn (Connie Moore) and that she will set Rachel straight.
Rachel had promised Cable she wouldn't use her powers unless it was an emergency, but she senses that something is terribly wrong. She telepathically scans Connie Moore and discovers she’s a member of the Dark Sisterhood. This whole rally is a ploy to stir up more hatred against mutants. Inside the straw mutant that is being hung is a bomb. The Sisterhood wants mutants blamed for the attack.
Two members of S.A.M. light the straw mutant on fire. The bomb will go off any second. Rachel needs to do something fast.
